News: Microsoft Confirms Scalebound Cancelled

Anticipated Title from Platinum Games has Ceased Production

Earlier today, rumours were confirmed that the eagerly awaited Scalebound release from Platinum has been cancelled.

A spokesperson from Microsoft commented that: “After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for Scalebound. We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves and other great experiences.” No Comment was made on the relationship of future developmental projects between Microsoft and Platinum.

Scalebound was set to be an experience focused more on graphical capabilities and role playing within a highly developed environment than it was about action controls, and would have been an experience in which the player gets to custom build and weaponise a dragon companion to follow them through the story. It would have followed the story of Drew, and dragon Thuban, in which you could not pick the class of your dragon, but switch between the main character and your winged companion. Delayed by Platinum last year for release in 2017, the reasons given were to ensure the game was able to “deliver on our ambitious vision and ensure that Scalebound lives up to expectations.”

Offering a new take on the fantasy dragon gameplay dynamic, and creating a cinematic game play environment, Scalebound would have been interesting and held innovative quirks for gamers looking for something complimentary to a score of high quality sequels.
