Pokémon GO gets major update

Gotta catch ’em all!

It was announced today that new companions have been added to the Pokémon GO! roster, this time from the Johto region. Pichu and Togepi are the only additions that have been named but it was stated that “several other Pokémon” are in game and will hatch from Eggs… happy incubating!

Since the app went live back in July with a respectable 145 Pokémon, we have had a steady stream of updates the vast majority of which have improved performance and the overall gaming experience. There is still no sign of the big 5 (Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Mew, and Mewtwo) but with Ditto (the broke man’s Mewtwo) just been added in November it’s only a matter of time.

In the US only, for the time being at least, Niantic have teamed up with Starbucks and Sprint making certain stores PokéStops and Gyms which will offer special bonuses to trainers. This means that whilst at participating stores you have more of a chance of running into a rare Pokémon or obtaining a rare egg whilst in the vicinity.

Pokémon GO! is still very much alive and Niantic are still working hard on constant updates with the full Gen-2 update being their largest undertaking since the release of the game.
