Mamoru Oshii to receive a lifetime achievement awared


The legendary mined behind some of anime’s greatest old school show’s Mamoru Oshii will receive the Winsor McCay Award for lifetime achievement from The International Animated Film Society that he will accept at the 44th Annual Annie Awards.

The moment that solidified Mamoru Oshii’s in the annal’s of animated history was for his work as director on 1995s Ghost In The Shell movie adaptation of Masamune Shirow manga of the same name.

The criteria for the award is “given to individuals in recognition of lifetime or career contributions to the art of animation in producing, directing, animating, design, writing, voice acting, sound and sound effects, technical work, music, professional teaching, and for other endeavours which exhibit outstanding contributions to excellence in animation.”

Oshii’s collection of works includes some of the best features in animation as a medium, he is responsible for the first OVA, Dallos. He is the director behind Angel’s Egg, ghost in the shell and the majority of the Patlabor projects.

The award ceremony will be held on February 4, 2017.
