Alien: Covenant new set photos

In Space no one can can hear you scream…But they can hear our geeky squeals of excitement

Ridlley Scotts Alien Covenant is set to be released in August 2017 and so far we haven’t really heard all them much about it save for a few tidbits of information drip fed to us here and there. We know that it is a sequel to Prometheus and had a name change from Promethues 2 to Alien: Paradise and finally to Alien: Covenant. We have learnt that Alien: Covenant will be the first in a trilogy which will answer the question of how the Xenomorph came to be and tie into the original Alien film.  Ridley Scott has also confirmed that the film will make a return to the horror roots that Alien grew from, aiming for a much darker more adult tone than Prometheus.

When asked about the tone of the film Ridley Scott said:

“Im going to do a pretty hard R”

When asked more specifically what he meant by hard R, Scott had this to say:

“I always remember walking down the edge in Saint Louis when we were previewing [Alien]. I couldn’t sit through the film one more time. I walked down the edge into the kitchen scene when John Hurt started to bring up his breakfast. That moment, I realized how pretty scary the film was… I felt a sense of responsibility that, “Had I gone too far?” because it was extreme. I’m going to try and do that again this year, but much worse”

The scene he is talking about is of course the now infamous chest burster scene and the news that he is aiming for a similar punch to the gut with this film should be exciting news to all alien fans who were disappointed with Prometheus’ lack of horror or shock and awe moments.

The more I hear about Alien: Covenant the more excited I get, I really hop this film delivers the return to the Alien universe that Prometheus promised.
