Amazon Prime Required For Purchases

Amazon Prime membership now required to purchase select games

Seemingly overnight and completely out of the blue Amazon has made a strange choice and locked the purchase of games such as Grand Theft Auto V for PS4 and Xbox One behind an Amazon Prime subscription.

This means in order to purchase this and other games including Minecraft and Fifa 16 you must be a member of Amazon Prime.

Interestingly with Grand Theft Auto it only seems to be the PS4 version that has this restriction applied to it, buyers can still purchase the Xbox One version from Amazon as usual.

It’s not anything to do with console manufacturer either, when looking for Minecraft the Xbox One version requires Amazon Prime but the Xbox 360 version does not.

This does seem like quite an aggressive push to get members to sign up for amazon prime but bizarrely only on a select few games. Hopefully this isn’t going to turn into a bizarre trend where games are seen as a premium product and should be reserved for Amazon Prime members only. As it stands Amazon Prime is around £80/$99 for a yearly subscription.
