Finally, a DOOM release date and shiny new trailer!

It’s almost time to kill us some demons!

I’m not going to lie, I was getting a little worried about this. The idea of Spring 2016 release was teased to us from way back into last year, and it’s up to you whether you can call MAY 13th spring or summer. That’s right, DOOM is hitting us on Friday the 13th of May! Along with the announcement today we also got a campaign trailer, that you can view below.

What’s great about this is that it’s poised as a campaign trailer. The Doom franchise has (mostly) been something that didn’t have a story. You run around, shot lots of things and sometimes find a key card to open stuff. This trailer sets it out very nicely; you show up on Mars, you find it’s gone to hell (not sorry) and kill everything you see before going off to Hell. In the day and age where games are advertised as having a solid narrative and then falling short it’s great to see a game that is putting its emphasis on everything element other than story.

Although we can go ahead and say ‘thank the maker’ for what will hopefully be an incredible game, it’s not entirely accurate. When the first Doom was released in 1993 the world of video games was almost underground, and that was a long time ago. Since then, all the co-founders of id have gone onto other things. Games were also largely ignored by main stream media and, because gaming was in its infancy, it was easier to stand out. It’ll be interesting to see how the first FPS game many of us played, stands up today with its reboot.

Have any thoughts regarding DOOM? Let us know!
