It’s Official Kojima has left Konami, but thats not all

Konami became the Cypher to Kojima’s Snake

“A strong man doesn’t need to read the future. He makes his own”

– Solid Snake to Psycho Mantis, Metal Gear Solid (1998)

The time has finally come for Hideo Kojima to break away from Konami. This last year the situation between the two has been bizarre to say the least, what with Kojima’s name being removed from Metal Gear Solid V promotional content to the most recent occurrence where Kojima was banned from going to the video game awards.

The following was revealed in a Japanese publication called The Nikkei. For those that don’t read Japanese the article in question details the terms of the split and what the future holds for Kojima.

In short Kojima will be taking a number of Kojima Productions staff with him to form a new studio, as yet un-named. There is also mention of talks with Sony to have their first game be a PlayStation platform exclusive. It’s a good time to be a Playstation owner if this is the case.

I myself have been a huge fan of Hideo Kojima almost since I started gaming and the idea of him having his own studio is a very exciting prospect. While I’m sure the budgets will decrease massively for his future products without Konami to bankroll his unique brand of madness I’m sure the fact that he will have complete creative control will mean we get some very special games indeed.

Stay tuned we will bring you more details as they are made available.
